One of Georgetown’s most recognizable pieces of public art is about to begin a new chapter.
Later this month, Georgetown Court will relocate its iconic Albert Paley Plaza Clock from its longtime home in front of Café Milano to a new location just across the garage entrance in front of The Madelon condominiums. This carefully planned move is part of our ongoing investment in enhancing the Georgetown Court experience while preserving an extraordinary work of art.
What makes this sculpture so remarkable?
✨ It is the only clock ever created by internationally acclaimed sculptor Albert Paley, one of the world’s most celebrated metalsmiths and the first metal sculptor to receive the American Institute of Architects’ Lifetime Achievement Award.
Created in 1981, the more than 13-foot-tall forged steel, brass, and bronze sculpture is both a functioning timepiece and a monumental work of public art. Professionally appraised as a highly valuable artwork, it has quietly stood as a Georgetown landmark for more than four decades.
